IKEA’s flat pack homes!

January 30th, 2008 · 2 Comments

IKEA has become Britain’s newest property developer, offering their BokLok homes to the public. These pre-fabricated wooden homes come in the shape of flats and houses and are being billed as “affordable” homes. Made from timber from sustainable forests, they will almost certainly meet the requirements of sustainable housing. The first development is set to be opposite the Gateshead Stadium and with interest said to be high will sell out fast.

Anyone interested in the homes should register with IKEA, as there are expected to be 36 flats and 47 houses, but only for people who are not already homeowners with a combined income of less than £35,000 (but more than £15,000). The buying price is under £100,000 for a flat and £150,000 for a house. IKEA says the houses will have a Swedish feel – with open plan rooms, high ceilings and big windows.

There is a website for these houses, its bloklok.co.uk I think – They are assembled for you and to be honest don’t look too bad. The only down side is they are currently only available to people who do not own a property and earn less than 16K p.a.
