The world record for land speed in a wind-powered car was broken last week.
Engineer Richard Jenkins reached 121.6mph the fastest any human has ever moved under natural power behind the wheel of the Ecotricity Greenbird.
He managed to break the previous record of 116mph set ten years ago.
The engine-free car, which has no vehicle carbon emissions, achieved its record speeds in a desert on the border of the US states of Nevada and California.
Dale Vince, owner of Ecotricity, which funded the project, said: “The record is an amazing achievement. It shows what is achievable with great British engineering and the power of the wind.
“In the next twenty years I firmly believe that wind power will be our main energy source and wind-powered cars will no longer be the stuff of dreams.”
