Energy efficiency has helped a village in Scotland save £180,000 on energy bills.
Fintry, which owns its own wind turbine, has earned money from the Climate Challenge Fund and Scottish Hydro Electric to help houses in the community boos their energy efficiency.
Non-profit organisation Energy Agency managed the running of the energy efficiency programme, while the Fintry Development Trust, set up by locals to decide how to reduce energy demand, oversaw the project.
A survey established that cavity wall insulation and loft insulation could be installed in half of the community properties.
Energy Agency project manager Michael Carr told the Stirling Observer: “Not only are we cutting carbon and lowering fuel bills, the survey has provided some startling figures.
“Around 47 per cent of households in Fintry were spending more than 10 per cent of their income heating their home which is the Scottish Governments definition of fuel poverty.”
Last year prime minister Gordon Brown announced plans to offer all households free and half price insulation.
