UK climate watchdog urges dramatic cuts in greenhouse gases
December 2nd, 2008 · No Comments
Ambitious targets to cut the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions by at least one fifth in just over a decade were proposed today by the government’s Climate Change Committee.
The reductions would be achieved by transforming the way electricity is produced and redesigning buildings, appliances and cars.
If accepted by ministers, the changes could see as much as [...]

UN: greenhouse gases at new record highs
November 27th, 2008 · No Comments
Greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere have reached new record highs and show no sign of leveling off, the U.N. weather agency said Tuesday.
Major greenhouse gases have been increasing every year since detailed records started being kept in 1998 and follow a trend of rising emissions that began with the Industrial Revolution in the mid-18th [...]

Greenhouse gas 4 times higher than thought
October 26th, 2008 · No Comments
Levels of a powerful greenhouse gas are four times as high as previously thought, according to new measurements released on Thursday.
New analytical techniques show that about 5,400 metric tons of nitrogen trifluoride are in the atmosphere, with amounts increasing by about 11 percent per year.

Cut greenhouse gases to save coral reefs: scientists
August 27th, 2008 · No Comments
To keep coral reefs from being eaten away by increasingly acidic oceans, humans need to limit the amount of climate-warming greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, a panel of marine scientists said on Wednesday.
“The most logical and critical action to address the impacts of ocean acidification on coral reefs is to stabilize atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration,” [...]

Flat-screen TV gases may be added to climate fight
August 23rd, 2008 · No Comments
New greenhouse gases emitted in making flat-screen televisions or some refrigerants might be capped under a planned U.N. treaty to combat global warming, delegates at U.N. talks in Ghana said on Friday.
Emissions of the recently developed industrial gases, including nitrogen trifluoride and fluorinated ethers, are estimated at just 0.3 percent of emissions of conventional greenhouse [...]
